Do you guys use a crock pot?

I am buying a crock pot, but I am nervous about leaving something cooking all day with my cats around. I know they probably go on the counters when I am not home (maybe I should set up a nanny cam....) and I would hate to think of them getting into the pot and having issues. Anyone use one and have any recommendations to keeping the cats away or keeping it safe?
