Oyster card taken away.?

My mother took my oyster card by accident and bought a travelcard on it. The oyster stopped working next day. She went to ticket office and was said to apply for a new one. However officer ceased the card because she stated another name ( the card is adult one ans she paid adult rate). Could she be fined for it?
