Why are most teenagers stereotyped into that emo/scence kid look?
Could it be capitalism that drives the force of this conformist regime? Society makes big bucks from the average person who feels compelled to belong to an insular cult of eyeliner, skinny/tube jeans, black fringes, pale skin and a particular type of music and attitude to life. Aesthetics in terms of 'having the look' is deemed compulsory. It is indeed paradoxical - as by 'rebelling' against establishment they are in fact conforming to a 'movement' reminiscent of religious fanaticism. It is also perhaps derivative of an attention cry and the need to belong.
